Non Scale Victories - Group Talk Week Commencing 15th August 2022.



You might be a member of Friends On A Journey for Weight Loss or Well Being, but in building a healthier life you need to be open to the possibilities your journey maybe bumpy as you travel the road to your goals.


It takes determination, strength, commitment and accountability to develop and achieve healthier eating habits, inturn assisting weight loss or maintenance.


Placing our whole focus on the scales can demotivate our drive to succeed, if the scales we feel don't reflect our hard work each week.


Another form of evaluating our progress is in the form of physically measuring our bodies with a tape measure i.e.

  • Neck

  • Hips

  • Waist

  • Chest

  • Thighs

  • Upper arm

  • Calf

By doing this we create our first NSV achievement that can inspire and strengthen your determination beyond the physical scales.


Taking our focus off the numbers on the physical scales, what other NSV could we celebrate.


I know from discussing NSV in the past, that some members note their weight changes by the fitting of their pants or how their clothes hang on their bodies.

In 2017 a study showed approximately 77% of women and 36% of men wanted to lose weight so they looked better and felt more comfortable in their clothes.


NSV can be linked to physical differences for example having more energy to dothe activities you love, whether its;

  • Riding a bike

  • Running

  • Horseriding

  • Playing a round of golf

  • Playing with your children/grandchildren

  • Walking the pets further

  • Digging the garden

The list is endless.


Losing weight can help improve your sleep, which also can benefit your energy levels.

In a 2018 study they found losing just 15lb improved the quality of your sleep.

By improving energy levels and sleep quality our mind becomes sharper, impacting our memory, attention span and speeding up our mental processing.


Eating healthier impacts our bodies whole health including the condition and glo of our skin.


The reduction of weight brings further NSV in the reduction of pain caused by excessive weight on our joints in particular knees, legs and lower back. In-turn with the weight loss and increased mobility helps reduce the risk of Osteoarthritis.


Bottomline;


I know from experience it's the NSV that you will always remember. Take timetable notice your changes, appreciating the endeavours you are investing in creating or maintaining a healthier life.


Always celebrate your victories. Its the NSV that will motivate you along your journey to success.
